Over the last fifty years, I have amassed a considerable variety of experiences and expertise.
That has translated into helping many people and companies achieve their goals.
Lately, it occurs to me
The Grateful Dead
What a long, strange trip it’s been
This article will cover past, present, and future ways I help people.
My educational background includes sciences, literature, philosophy, psychology, video, music, writing, art, marketing, and life in general.
After computer systems training, I work in a large systems integration company starting as a programmer. In five years I progressed to being a Technical Architect and Project Manager on projects.
I also published a branch newsletter, writing about half of the content for each issue.
I also played drums or bass in a number of bands ranging from professional to hobby bands.
Many of my best business projects have come from playing music.
For example, a singer in one of the bands was a Ph.D. candidate in Applied Psychology.
She asked if a could help supervisor compile a BASIC program.
Over the next decades, I ended up being an integral part of an HR Assessment company with my friend from the band.
We went from hand-scoring assessments to scoring with computer programs, to putting an astonishing range of assessments online.
The psychologists designed the assessments, I put them online with a data-intensive system I designed and built.
We generated over ten million dollars in revenue and I got about a million dollars in commissions over that time. The revue sharing idea allowed the company to survive during lean times and everyone benefitted in the good times.
We had binges of development, though much of the time we simply invoiced for usage.
I don’t think I put in more than a thousand hours over twenty years.
I never thought about it until this morning, but that was about a thousand dollars an hour in 1990s dollars. Not too shabby.
That is why I will always listen when someone has an idea that might fly.
Most won’t, but some will!
Early on I wanted to get a video camera to document family stories.
That led to getting more and more professional gear and thousands of hours shooting and producing videos for family stories, food projects, concerts, keynote presentations, live events, and even a few quirky music videos.
Here are some samples from https://www.youtube.com/gregdixon2007:
Today I produce a lot of videos for online courses, interviews, and marketing.
I do a lot of that using StreamYard.
The Greg Dixon Course Vault covers many uses of video in the Course Creation Alchemy Profile, StreamYard Magic Playset, Gold Nugget Video Course, and the Transformation Alchemy Treasure Chest.
All of the courses were sold separately and I plan to another called How To Build and Publish a Life Vault.

If you are human, you are a writer.
As a student ~ especially a Literature student ~ I read a lot and wrote a lot of essays.
Since then I have written millions of words including magazine articles, manuals, songs, survival guides, blog posts, course content, social media posts, video scripts, project plans, proposals, posters, and more.
I have studied copywriting with the American Writers and Artists Institute (AWAI ~ Dan Kennedy recommended), Ray Edwards, Marie Forleo, and Nick Usborne. Dave Dee, Troy Broussard, Ben Settle, Kim Walsh Philips, and Eric Lofholm are influences.
Part of my long strange trip is that I signed up for Andy Jenkin’s Video Boss program.
Years later Andy Jenkins was a co-founder of an All-In-One business platform called Kartra.
I often say that ‘Kartra’ evokes some sort of exotic goddess of commerce:-)
The platform aimed to provide membership sites, landing pages, sales campaigns, mailing lists, sales, video, affiliate marketing, and much more.
I was a Beta Tester and found the platform very good at the start.
Kartra constantly gets better and adds new features like Surveys/Quizzes, Help Desks, and Scheduling Calendars to make it capable of supporting very large online companies as well as the solopreneur.
See the Kartra Product Page.
The components work together and there is an astonishing amount of analytics available in the platform to track your success.
Kartra’s Agency mechanism makes it very easy to work with a client’s Kartra account without having their credentials.
Other platforms with some common features include Kajabi, ClickFunnels, High Level, SamCart, Groove, Thrive, New Zenler, Keap (InfusionSoft), and more.
I have used almost all of the features for my own projects and for clients.
There is depth to Kartra that can be overwhelming for business owners and not what they want to spend their time doing.
So they call on me as the Kartra Whisperer.
And I support many of my clients using the features of Kartra, even if they just want stuff to work and do not care about the platform that provides the magic:-)
Much of my millions of words were published on WordPress sites like this one using the Hemingway theme (you can use any theme as long as it is Hemingway!).
It is fast, clean, has search, and I can use Google Translate on the site.
I can also embed Kartra pages using plugins, allowing me to integrate Kartra features for client sites in WordPress.
The best of both worlds!

Given one of the reasons I was interested in video production was to capture family stories, working with others to create Story Productions was a natural progression.
With Tell Your Story Productions, my wife Bonnie McDonald Dixon and her longtime friend from the Natural Health Industry, Jerry Smith, has created a range of multimedia story productions.
Each Story Production has been a unique collection of multimedia elements such as photos, video, audio, and written stories.
We also travelled in an RV and interviewed pioneers in Natural Health under the banner of the Natural Health Movement.
During the pandemic, we broadcast some of those interviews and conducted live interviews using StreamYard as Health Pioneer Theater.
A current project that uses almost all of my skills and experiences is creating The Rocket Norton Vault.
Rocket Norton is a Vancouver musician, author, impresario, and course creator.
I have worked with Rocket Norton on many projects over the decades, including his How to Coach Baseball to Kids course, his books, driving the stars with his Town Car driving service, and promoting his recent F**K Cancer Concert that raised over $300K. See https://www.fcancerconcert.ca.
The Rocket Norton Vault contains much of his lifetime creative output and we are adding more each week.
See https://www.rocketnorton.com
It is the ultimate Story Production.
The Life Vault is a natural evolution of Story Productions.
One way of looking at a Vault is a secure repository for anything a person, family, or business deems worthy of preserving and sharing.
Building a Life Vault with you is one of the services I offer.
See https://www.gregdixon.net/storyproductions.
I also am launching a book, an online training series, and (surprise surprise:-), a Course Vault with a working title of How to Build and Publish a Life Vault.
One of the topics will be including succession information like wills, representation agreements, power of attorney, and legacy mechanisms in highly protected areas.
At the very least, the instructions on how to find the documents.
I will include various experts in the training modules for How to Build and Publish a Life Vault.
Related to Life Vaults are Online Courses and Memberships.
Many of my clients have an online course or membership (with the main distinction being paying once or paying monthly).
My Course Creation Alchemy Formula is included in The Greg Dixon Course Vault.
See https://www.gregdixon.net/coursevault.

Dan Kennedy said that it was impossible to draw a bell curve of success for Network Marketing.
Statistically, a very small number of people make money and a few people make a lot of money.
The vast majority make almost no money or spend more money than they make trying.
Dan Kennedy’s graph would be a flat line with 99% at near zero or below zero, with a sharp spike for the 1% who make decent money.
Dan was talking about people in network marketing companies and various industry statistics support that. Very few people make money. The ones that do can make a lot of money.
After attending hundreds of in-person BNI meetings, and hundreds of online networking meetings, my sense is that the Return On Investment (ROI) for participating in networking could look something like this:
What is your experience?
Let’s calculate your Return On Investment.
20 hours a week is 1,000 hours for the year.
Say you spent $200 a month on networking. That is $2400 for the year.
With revenue less than that, you are networking at a net loss.
Is your number positive?
Divide the revenue by the number of hours to get an hourly rate for your efforts.
Say you value your time at $100 per hour. A thousand hours of your time is worth $100,000 a year.
If your numbers suggest you would be further ahead as a Walmart Greeter, you have a problem!
To be clear, networking can be a lot of fun and there are intangible benefits.
It can be like eating ice cream and buying lottery tickets. Fun to do, even if the results don’t help your bottom line.
Here are some things to consider if you want to increase your bottom line.
You will have a chance of success in a networking group where:
Going back to Dan Kennedy’s comments on Network Marketing, many networking meetings have a large percentage of people representing MLM products and services (even if they might not think of themselves as being in an MLM).
They tend not to be looking for service providers or be seriously interested in your MLM offer. At best, they could refer you to their network as a service provider.
Russell Brunson says you need to fish where the fish are.
If the prospects for clients, referrals, and collaborations in the group are slim, you are fishing in the wrong place.
If you are fishing in the right pond, are you using the right bait?
In other words, is your presentation leading to high-quality appointments?
If not, you need to refine your messaging.
Like it or not, many people will take a look at your online footprint before making an appointment with you or arriving at the meeting.
What they see will be a factor in the outcome of your meeting.
What is your online footprint:
Eric Loftholm, Dan Kennedy, and many others urge you to use multiple ways to attract clients.
While you still need to send a Fax to communicate with Dan Kennedy, his team uses ALL forms of media to keep him in front of millions of people.
Here are some things that could be on your list:
If attending networking groups is the only thing you are doing and you are not getting results, time to put more time into other areas.
Given that the usual goal of networking is to get paid for projects, are you spending enough time delivering the work?
Doing great work fast will lead to more business and referrals.
Are you behind in your accounting and taxes?
Are there leaks in your business process that are costing you money?
If that is your case, your networking efforts will be like pouring water into a leaky bucket. Fix the holes!
Here are some things you can do to improve the overall success of your business.
Would you like to meet with me to look at what you are doing and recommend areas for improvement?

There are three main aspects to building a successful business:
Most activities will fall into one of these three areas.
Neglecting any of the areas will not lead to success.
The circle with arrows in the middle indicates a repeating cycle of continuous improvement and growth.
Each workshop on Building Your Online Business will cover one of these areas with examples, strategies, and implementation tips.
Register for the free workshop series at https://www.gregdixon.net/.
You will receive invitations to live workshops, replays, and access to a membership area with recordings and much more.
What does success look like for you?
Is it helping people?
Making sales?
Creating a legacy?
There are many building blocks for creating your success.
I can help you share and sell your special sauce through Digital Marketing, Kartra, and a ginormous treasure chest of tools and experience.
Chances are I can provide many of the building blocks for your success or suggest other places to find them.
Kartra is an all-in-one business platform with almost everything you need to grow your business.
Kartra shares features with products like Kajabi, ClickFunnels, Keep, SamCart, Groove, Typeform, MailChimp, and others.
The main focus is on all of the components of sales funnels.
I joke that the name ‘Kartra’ evokes some exotic goddess of commerce!
Kartra is like a commercial shipping container full of Lego parts that can be combined to build almost anything for your business.
I was part of the Kartra Beta Test Program in 2017 and have been using it with client projects and my own projects since then. I have implemented most of the Kartra features over that time.
While Kartra is relatively easy to use, there can be a lot of moving parts and options that need consideration.
A novel called The Horse Whisperer and a movie with Robert Redford and a young Scarlet Johansson came out in 1998.
In the movie, One Week, Joshua Jackson’s character rides a vintage Norton motorcycle across Canada after learning he had cancer that is likely terminal.
The film credits listed a Norton Whisperer.
Made me laugh.
I have coaxed both an old MGB and an old Honda motorcycle on trips and can imagine it took a fair amount of whispering to get the British motorcycle to the West Coast of Vancouver Island in one piece!
Kartra is much more reliable than old British vehicles.
I have a growing number of clients who ask me to help with Kartra, including:
Kartra is a platform that can take you from simple sales pages to very complex business implementation including products, courses, and memberships.
Do what you do best, and have The Kartra Whisperer do the rest!.
So let’s chat about your goals and how Kartra and The Kartra Whisperer can help you achieve them!
A biologist can take a square foot of garden or land almost anywhere on earth and spend an entire lifetime studying all of the organisms and how they work together.
Some scientists may pick a single species and devote all their research to it.
Others are more interested in the interactions that create a thriving ecosystem.
The same perspectives come into play with your business.
Often you will hear advisors say things like ‘niche down’ or ‘do what you do best’.
All good as long as you know the entire success ecosystem for your business.
You need to be aware of what needs to be done, even if you don’t do it yourself.
If you are just starting out, you will have few options other than doing it yourself, so you will at least need to create a roadmap that includes all of the elements.
Otherwise, you are looking at the bees without considering the flowers.
Without the sunshine, soil, and flowers, the bees will go extinct. Some believe that if the bees go extinct, humans will soon follow.
What does your business ecosystem look like?
What success elements are missing?
Here are the main components for success if you are offering a course or membership online.
One mistake many make when offering products and services is not doing enough to attract clients and customers.
Here are some things to try:
Consider your return on investment of time and money with all things.
Do more of what is working for you, and less of what is not.
Keep moving and aim for progress every day.
There are many things that I am very good at, such as business platforms such as Kartra , video, writing, and course creation.
However, my true superpower comes from seeing the business ecosystem and helping with many of the elements of success.
Let’s have a conversation about what you offer the world.
Together we can plan and launch your success.
What does your business look through the eyes of potential clients and customers?
Is it a welcoming place?
Is it confusing?
Where do you lose sales?
A friend asked me to tag along as a secret shopper for a Tragically Hip concert. He did not drink, so I sampled the beer, burgers, and other things on his list and gave him feedback to record on his list.
Things like service, quality, wait to get service, friendliness of the server, overall experience, …
You can do the same with your online business.
Put on your ‘Visitor’ hat and walk through your entire operation.
Be honest now, how would you rate your experience?
I can be your secret shopper.
I usually start a connection with a client with a free discovery session.
The next thing could be a paid review and report of the customer experience from the beginning to the end.
From there, you can take action on the recommendations in-house or hire freelancers like me to do it with you or for you.
I help clients launch and market their courses. Creating the course is just part of the success roadmap.
Depending on the course, there is often far more writing OUTSIDE of the course than in it.
Here are a few of the writing tasks I can help you with:
I can also help you with the content of your course too.
Book an appointment at https://www.gregdixon.net/calendar to discuss your project.
Sales funnels are the best way to sell your products and services such as:
I design and implement customer sales funnel campaigns to sell your products and services.
Funnels can range from simple one-pagers to elaborate campaigns such as:
I can help with all of the following:
The first step is to discuss your offers and how I can help promote and sell with full funnels for your success.
The first step is to design a complete sales funnel that is appropriate for your offer.
Payments for implementation and launch are indexed to success for qualified offers.
Pay out of your profits!
